Hi. I'm Andrew. Audio portal junkie since 2010, supporter since 2017. I always want to improve what I do! I make music, run the NGUAC, post poetry on BBS, and am the all-time #2 audio reviewer. I love this site, and I want to make it the best I can! ^_^

@Creeperforce24 beat block doesnt exist gng
alright i got this in the mail and i'd say it sounds like an interesting social event to be part of.
only got one thing i have a question about so far:
the 2 rounds post-tryouts are to be treated as separate with separate tracks made for them and NOT just a different phase of judgement that the SAME tracks are going to be put through, right? just making sure
addendum - nvm seems like my question was answered in the comments i just missed it
No worries. Yes, that is correct - you should submit a separate track to each of the post-tryouts rounds. Thanks!
Sounds like fun 😇. Question, for the tryout round if I’ve composed a soundtrack that I’ve posted on SoundCloud, can I submit it as an entry as long as I also upload it to NG? Or does it have to be exclusively hosted on NG?
Good question! You can submit it to the contest as long as it's on NG. It doesn't matter if you've also posted it to SoundCloud, Bandcamp, YouTube, or anywhere else. Thanks for asking! ^_^
@TaintedLogic Cool thanks!
Hi, I have a question about this competition. And if I didn't make it to the knockouts, maybe this will serve as an answer to some other people
So, can the knockouts and finals music pieces be inspired by another piece? As it was mentioned that the piece shall be completely original, which that I'm not sure of
Inspiration is fine, yes. Frankly, every piece of music is inspired by *something.* Definitely don't reuse entire melodies or take lengthy samples from another track. A good rule of thumb is to only "borrow" elements of another song that can't be copyrighted: chord progression, or rhythmic patterns, or overarching structure. But the more elements you borrow from a single other track, the more of a gray area it is whether you've made a "complete original" or a remix. In general, standards for originality are at the discretion of the judges. Hope this helps!
been making music for like a month but who cares lets see how this goes
i have lots of work to do lately and i'm playing almost weekly shows this summer so i'm not too sure i can make it.
however if i get the chance to scrabble in something i might.
@TaintedLogic Thanks man! Appreciate it!
@TaintedLogic Hi there, I have a question.
You can have a partner that can't compose, edit, improvise... If I also have a collaborator in my team, can we have another partner that will only sing what my collaborator and I will compose for the 2nd round (if we pass the 1st round)?
Yes, that's fine. You can only have two people make creative contributions to the project, but having someone else play an instrument or sing for your track is okay. Thanks for asking!
Hi, one question, if I make a short reference to a section of an arpeggio from a commercial song, is that a violation?
Thanks for asking. In short, probably not, as arpeggios are generally not copyrightable, nor are they necessarily defining elements of a song. Anything that rises to the level of "remix" or "cover" is certainly not allowed, but if every other part of the song is original besides that arpeggio, I'd say you're fine to include it.
I have a question. I moved on to the second phase, and it started on the 12th. Do I have to upload the song during the specified timeframe? Or on the final day?
And to upload it, what tag should it have?
Also have a good day!
Thanks for asking! You can upload it any time during the round (i.e., until the 26th), and the tag is not important. What's important is that you post it in this thread: https://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/1547615/1. Best of luck!
hello! i use a daw called audiotool.com, and the sample library has a very wide variety of samples. a select few of those samples are guaranteed to be "legally impeccable", said by audiotool themselves, as they are uploaded by audiotool and people trusted by audiotool.
it says.
"Guaranteed to be legally impeccable! Using safe samples exclusively will guarantee that you will not accidentally run into infringement issues or held legally responsible in the future."
does this mean that if i only use these safe samples and no unsafe samples, i can still enter my music? please help me with this!
thanks in advance :D
Thank you for asking! And yes, non-copyrighted samples that have creative commons (or other licensing terms that let others modify and re-upload them) are totally fine to use for the competition. Best of luck! ^_^
@TaintedLogic Nice then, Thankyou!
Sorry, that might be a silly question but I still want to know.
I just made a song specifically for this contest but I also want it to be a part of an album that I'm working on (because it is a bit dead and I also don't really want to create a new icon for this track). Is that allowed?
Yes! That's totally fine. Best of luck with your album.
@TaintedLogic Thank you!
Sorry, 1st time :), Where do i post for knockouts?
No worries. In this forum thread, please: https://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/1547615/1. Thanks!
@TaintedLogic found it, thanks.
All the songs sound really good there
