Hi. I'm Andrew. Audio portal junkie since 2010, supporter since 2017. I always want to improve what I do! I make music, run the NGUAC, post poetry on BBS, and am the all-time #2 audio reviewer. I love this site, and I want to make it the best I can! ^_^

Why is the Audio Portal so popular right now?

Posted by TaintedLogic - April 2nd, 2020

Hi everyone. By my count, there were 8,301 submissions to the Audio Portal in April 2020, the highest monthly total since August 2009. Before about 6 months ago, the number of monthly submissions was stable at around 5,000. The sudden increase is even more noticeable visually (see the graph below).

If anyone has any insights into why this is the case, please let me know. I'm always looking for evidence to refute the popular refrain that "Newgrounds is dying", but I'm also just really curious. Thanks! ^_^

probably quarantine

That could be a factor, but the spike in submissions started in November. It'll be interesting to see how long we stay above 6,000 per month.
