I liked the vocal samples at the beginning, and how that sort of set the context for the rest of the piece. I could clearly picture the dejected gutter guy taking a long walk back to his van. XD The piece has a pretty cool cinematic quality to it, yet is very minimalistic. I like the combination of synths and strings, as well as the mood and atmosphere. It gets really repetitive, though, and needs more structuring/progression. It's in pretty good quality, though, and the mix is clear, so I'm scouting you, bro. You have potential, so please post more! ;D

xpwifi responds:

Woah, I did not see this. Thanks for leaving such a detailed review. The song was actually not made by me but was taken from the audio portal. I probably could have ended it a LOT earlier, but for some reason, I just put the entire song in. On hindsight, that probably wasn't the best idea. Thanks for the reply!

I love the synths and pads and chill mood. That said, I think it should've progressed a lot faster, even if it is supposed to be chill. You need some more fill at some points too imo. I like the piano riffs though, and it is really smooth-flowing and relaxing. The instruments and mood are definitely there - I think you need to think more about progression/structuring, and some dynamic contrast wouldn't hurt either. I think it loops pretty well, though. Anyway, I'm scouting you because I think you have potential. Keep up the good work, man! ;D

joerdy responds:

thanx man!
finally a review haha,
and about the structuring and progression is a point where i need to look at, most of the time i make something and put so much work in it that i dont finish it thats why i have a lot long build ups in the tracks i make haha, but i will do my best to apply it in my next project. thanx for your review!

Dude, I haven't heard from you in a while! :D I love the instruments and moods. That quirky ambient beat adds a lot to the piece. Progresses a little slowly at times, but really creates a nice background sound. My favorite part was probably when the strings came in at 1:09. 2:06 was also a height of emotion for me. The weird FX that comes in for the first time at around 2:15 didn't really work for me, though. Kind of sounds mechanical and dark, which clashes noticeably with the more organic-sounding and emotional strings/pads. I like the ending, but I think overall it also needed some more dynamic contrast. If you want to incorporate the FX, I would suggest putting it at the beginning and then having the piece evolve into a more emotion/feel-good sort of piece. ;) Keep up the good work, W00ki3! ^^

W00ki3 responds:

Man, i love when u reviewing my trucks! Alwyas with good words! Thanks bro ;)

Ha, I recognized that acoustic bass preset from Garageband instantly! :D I love the woodwinds/brass, though, and the piano as well. The progression was good, and it was nice and smooth-flowing. I think my favorite of the song was 1:51 - almost feels like Latin pop from there on out! :D Great job with the melodies and harmonies, though. This is a fun piece. Keep up the great work, LunacyEcho! ;D

LunacyEcho responds:

Guilty. :P

Latin pop? I guess it does! The second half was also inspired in part by a song called Afro Blue (not sure if you've heard of it), so I guess that's why you think so.

Thanks a lot! I did try and make the second part fun.

I love the retro vgm vibes, man! The funky bass and rhythms really give it that 90s feel. The vocals were well-done, too - may I ask what they're saying? Well-structured and smooth-flowing, and I love those melodies! You never fail to impress, Waterflame! Keep up the good work! :D

Waterflame responds:

Thank you! :D I will add the text in the author comment field now!

I love the mood and instruments. It's very pensive and dark...like I'm in the basement of an abandoned church. The piano's melodies are beautiful, and that (oboe? saxophone?) was also quite a treat. It has a very interesting drone-like quality. The violin solo was also very pretty. Your samples are really good...I'm jealous. It's well-structured and smooth-flowing, with quite a lot of excellent harmonizing and melodic progression. Felt like I owed you a review because you're my Supreme Omega in the WNG. I also heard you were an excellent musician, which turned out to be completely true. I love your style, Troisnyx! Keep it up, and have a nice day! ;D

Troisnyx responds:

Eh thanks! In response:

1) That was an oboe.
2) Glad you like that violin, I always struggle to make it sound real and I don't know if I've hit the spot.
3) Review me as one of your peers in future, not simply because I'm Supreme Omega. I'd appreciate that very much. : )

I love the upbeat and energetic piano, but I think the piece could've progressed faster as a whole. The melodies are very memorable and fun. I love the mood to this piece. It's also very catchy. I appreciate your experiments with the slide tool as well, haha! :D It's well-structured and smooth-flowing, and to be honest I don't think you need to add much more to it to make it complete, perhaps with the exception of a more conclusive ending. I'd also like to compliment you on your mixing, TastyTeo, which has improved greatly over the last couple of years. I think "dance" is just fine for a genre, btw. ;) Keep up the good work, man! ;D

TastyTeo responds:

WOW, just WOW! Thanks :D Actually I won't be adding much, don't worry, I actually made the song very bassy now and working on a better finale (I wasn't satisfied with it myself too xD) I've been trying to mix it for like 1 hour straight! Thanks for the kind words!

It's very pretty and atmospheric and pensive. The reverb really adds a lot to the piece. Reminds me of rain. ^_^ The pensive and intellectual mood is what I really like about this piece. The progression is good, but maybe it could have used a little more dynamic contrast (at the same time, it is a loop though, so I'm willing to excuse that). ;) It loops well as it is, but I think I would've left a couple of beats extra at the end, just to create a more dramatic revelation when you hear the pick-up at :00 again. :) Excellent work, though, LSD! Keep it up! :D

LucidShadowDreamer responds:

I think I'm getting closer to understanding how much reverb I should use. But maybe not, as I always end up thinking; "let's add a ton!"...

This piece probably would've looked entirely differently had I actually played it on my piano. I was pretty lazy this time though, so I sat by my computer late at night and dotten in some stuff there instead. The version I actually play is much simpler, although this is not even that difficult a piece. I just haven't memorized all the weird variations on the chords, so I use standard versions instead XD

You are totally right about the extra beats. I actually had a more fitting ending (a few more hits and then silence) for the piece at first, but I decided to delete it, as making this into a loop was far too easy :p
(Lazy me... Oh well; it's still a WIP XD)

Thanks for your review!!! :'D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TeraVex, my man! :D I haven't heard from you in a while...Anyway, I really like the atmosphere and progression. The oscillating synths and sweeps really create this tranquil and pensive mood. I envision this as a prog house track in its final form, maybe with a bit more detail added to the intro (:00 - 1:02). 1:02 is a solid transitory moment into 1:08...I can just picture the sunrise, the strings coming in and the birds singing in contrast to the gray pre-dawn light in the part that ends at 1:02 (sorry, I'm in a weird mood today). Nice work, though. I think it lacks fill right now (but you already knew that). I'd love to hear some strings/pads moving and some uplifting melody coming in after 1:08 - a glorious morning in full form. I'm kind of getting a similar vibe to that of, say...Deadmau5's "There Might be Coffee." ;) Good to have you back, man! ^^

TeraVex responds:

Thanks for your thoughts! I was actually shooting for a deadmau5y feel to this song, so I'm glad you got that vibe!

:10 --> This is what I mean by arrhythmic. The beat doesn't really...keep a steady/distinct beat. After you make a beat, you should be able to tap your foot to it consistently. If you can't, that means it's either too busy (too much going on) or is arrhythmic. I can sort of envision how you wanted the beat to sound, but it seriously detracts from my enjoyment of the piece how it is. Also, the harmonies that start around 1:08 are in a state of complete dissonance. I think a lot of the pads and effects are cool, even if you overuse some (i.e., around 1:35-1:45). Like many of your other pieces as well, it lacks structure and variety. I should be hearing new instruments/riffs up to 60% of the way into the song (or later). I would suggest doing some research on common drum patterns and making beats based off of those first. One of the mistakes I made early on (and still make sometimes to this day) is trying to make tracks too complex. Understanding harmonies and rhythms in any depth takes time, and it really helps if you play a musical instrument (do you?). That reminds me: does this program you're using to make these tracks have a series of loops, or did you write all of the individual notes in there yourself? Also, may I ask about your age/musical background? This could help me suggest how best to expand your musical knowledge next. In the meantime, enjoy your travels...and if all this info from me is overwhelming you, try not to think about it this next week! I often find it helpful to take a bit of a break from making music when I feel frustrated with a song I'm working on, and then come back. ;)

Electronic-Headphone responds:

I found this review helpful. Thanks. I will try harder. On June 8 2014, I will send you a private messege about my musical background. And one more thing. I just started with making music.
Bye. See you in few days. Tomorrow I am going to travel.
