This is really good! :D I love the combination of instruments, and the mix is very clear. Your sense of harmony is superb - I'm jealous. It may be short, but it has an awesome sense of direction, flow, and structure. It's climactic, catchy, and upbeat. Makes a pretty good loop, too. You're going to go far, man! Keep up the great work! ;D

larrynachos responds:

Really? Thanks, man. That means a lot. I honestly wasn't satisfied with the outcome of this song, but I'm really glad you like it :D

Hey Electronic-Headphone. :) You asked me to review this piece of yours, and now I have the time! Thanks for your patience! All right, so I think all the random vinyl/scratching noises don't add a lot to the piece at all, although I did like the beat in the background in certain areas, like around 1:34 - 2:29. However, there were some places that sounded really harsh and penetrating, too, like around 2:40 - 3:25. It's the arrhythmic scratching FX that's really bothering me at this point, though. I see you at least attempted a more conclusive ending this time, though, which is good. I just think you should use some more basic rhythms before you really get a feel for creating a less unnecessarily busy beat. A lot of my pieces mostly stick to quarter and eighth notes even now! :) Keep working at it, Electronic-Headphone. I think you're trying to make your pieces too complex. Start simpler, and you'll be able to add onto the tracks later as you learn more. For now, try to make a beat with quarter and eighth notes and a simple synth part, upload it, and we'll go from there. Okay? :)

Electronic-Headphone responds:

Yeah. Thanks for the review. I plan to make some art too and I will submit a Drum N Bass song tomorow. I hope you enjoy and scout me for the art portal. I will try harder.

Hey, I like this! :D It's catchy, and the beat is cool. I really liked the melody at 1:03. I think the mixing my might need a bit of work. Those echo-y claps that come in on the third beat of every measure sort of get buried under the synths later in the piece. The way you can fix that is by removing the limiter in the mixer, and using a Parametric EQ to bring out the claps' more prominent tones while getting rid of the others. That should fix it. I understand that you can't really finish this, so that's just for future reference, I guess! ;) It's a little simplistic and lacks fill at some points, but I like the structure and transitions. I love the mood and instruments, too, and it loops really well! :) Keep up the good work, Elephly. ;D

Elephly responds:

Thanks for the technical help! Whenever I try to do any mixing I normally bog things up... but I like to think that this one sounds best compared to my previous uploads, even if it isn't complete.
Thanks for the support

Hey, I like this! :D Your voice is pretty, and I really liked the lyrics. One thing you might want to work on a bit is the balance: the "doo doo doo-doos" sort of cover up the lyrics sometimes. Also, I think it needs more of a conclusive ending. As it is, it sort of just ends. At one point, I think around 1:05-1:12, the vocals lost a bit of their energy. Otherwise, the vocals were 10x better than anything I could make! ;) You have a lot of potential, oOzeroOo, so I'm scouting you! Keep up the great work! :D

I like the combination of synths with the creepy drone-like ambiance. The bongos were a nice touch, too. It doesn't loop perfectly, but I can hardly take off points for that! Please expand on this idea, Insanctuary! I think it'll be worth your while! :D Looking forward to hearing what you do with this. ;)

Insanctuary responds:

I want to. ;) Thanks.

I love the energetic mood and bouncy vibe it has to it. Smooth-flowing as well, except maybe for 4:46. Need a sweep or crash there to make it less sudden. I also think the bass is taking up way too much space in the mix. You might need to turn down the volume a bit, but it could also be that it wasn't equalized enough. Open up "Parametric EQ 2" in the mixer and drag down the tones for the bass except the lowest 200 hertz. Also, it could use a little more structuring: moments like 3:30 where the parts change, instead of an ongoing, frantic melody like during the first 3 minutes of the piece. More dynamic contrast would be ideal. Overall, though, it's pretty good. I like all the echo/delay and filtering stuff - that was cool. You should really upload stuff to the Audio Portal more often, Elephly. You have potential. Keep at it, man! ;D See you in the Writing Forum! ^^

Elephly responds:

Thanks for the tips! Music is only a little hobby of mine so I don't tend to get stuff up often.

This is amazing! :D I love the instruments and mood. It's soothing, yet energetic in a way. I especially enjoyed the flute solo at 1:04 and the toy-piano-sounding instrument that came in at :17. Your voice is beautiful, btw. :) You did a great job of capturing the mystery and charm of the moon as well as Japan. It loops flawlessly. Excellent work! ;)

~Your peer, Andrew

Yup, my suspicions were correct: you're really good! :D I like that melody - sounds very melancholy and soulful. I've always deeply admired the ability to improvise. Maybe I'll work on that more myself after this week when I have more time. You really have that vibrato down, too. Great job! :D May I ask how you recorded it?

TeraVex responds:

Audacity and a blue snowball with pop filter. That's all you need really!

Step: PLEASE never go 6 months without posting a song EVER AGAIN! I love the mood and instruments of this one, as well as the dramatic/heroic vibes throughout. It looped flawlessly, and really kept me entertained throughout. It was short, yet had plenty of variation and melodic development. That said, the transition at :54 was rather sudden, although I suppose that is fitting for a videogame. At first, it actually looped a couple times without me even noticing! The replay value on this piece is fantastically high! I love it! :D Keep up the great work, Step. Let's hope I'll never again go into such intense bouts of Step withdrawl as I have over the past 6 months. ;)

UltimateCJ64 responds:

Damn you admins for not completing the project system so that managers can respond to reviews as well! Sorry dude, wish Step could respond. :(

I appreciate the review, man. Yeah, the whole -sudden- transition kinda got me as well, but like you said, appropriate for a game. Plus it adds a little dramatic effect, going into a false sense of security, you see? ;D Also great to hear that it does loop without issue, I'd go nuts if it didn't since I am using it in a little while. XD

I hope I see more from Step as well after this project. :)

Yeah, this is a fun little loop! :D I like the drama and mood, as well as the instruments. It loops well. Wish there was a bit more structural development, but I understand that you were pressed for time! ;) I AM going to respond to your PMs, btw. This Friday or Saturday. AFTER final exams. DX Sorry...I know it's been a long time. I'll have all the time in the world to chat online after 6/20/14. ;D

LucidShadowDreamer responds:

Hahha, personally, I don't think it's really that good at all XD
I wish there was a lot more to this, but it's not that serious a project. I'm happy with it, considering the time it took me to make. I should've tried to get rid of the clipping though :/

I'm looking forward to your PM ;)

Good luck with your exams, and thank you for reviewing! :D
