Oops, missed this one! Love the relaxed guitar riff at the beginning and the glitchy drums. By around 1:15, I'm really enjoying all the densely layered harmonies. At times, the rhythmic elements of the harmonies feel a bit square, but the creative drums certainly help make up for that. The transition at 2:34 was a bit sudden, but I like the gritty mid-range bass there.

Wow, 3:10-4:10 sounds dissonant. I really like the distorted guitar melody that comes in at around 4:10. It was a good way of hitting the piece home. The pacing during the last half of the piece is a bit slow, but the syncopations and sound design are on point.

Really evocative content overall, LAPSE! Is the date in the description (4/30/2010) when you made it? If so, I can clearly see both the origins of your style and how you've grown as an artist since then. Keep it up! ^_^

LLAAPPSSEE responds:

Thanks for stopping by again and reviewing, TL. :)

Yeah, I have had this untitled track since that date! Figured I'd release it -- why not? It was one of the things I managed to save when my HDD crashed back in the day.
I think I was listening to good bit of blues and prog rock back in the day when I created the second half.

I like the glitchy intro and crisp drums at :14. The synths at :40 are pretty dissonant, and occasionally I think you overdo the staticky sound effects, but the rhythmic content is great throughout. Production is super clean and well-balanced, and there's a ton of variety. Some of the transitions later on in the piece are a little rough. Not sure this one is my style overall, but serious props for the creative sound design and catchiness. ^_^

LLAAPPSSEE responds:

Yeah, s'why I never really released the thing. Just kept it to myself for a while. But, now it's here. Let'er rip. Can't win'em allllll.

I like the rich, tranquil pads at the beginning and the prominent drums. The playful piano and airy synths really contrast nicely with the heavy rhythmic elements here. I also really like the minimal pads at the breakdown at 1:34 or so - I can definitely hear the influence from Thorn and other tracks of yours, both in terms of harmonies and sound design. The dreamy ambiance at 2:50 probably constitutes my favorite aspect of the piece. In fact, the whole piece sounds like drifting in and out of sleep despite the anxieties of the coming day, and towards the end I finally let the shut-eye take over. ^_^ Keep at it, LLAAPPSSEE!

I like the ominous vibe at the beginning. Sounds more tranquil than creepy, though. There was a nice injection of energy at :32, although the percussive hits on the off-beats starting at :47 take up a bit too much space in the mix IMO. I would've loved to hear some more variety in the harmonies at some point, but you definitely flesh out the rhythmic elements effectively with the syncopations at 2:08 and 3:10. I will confess that once the texture gets as dense as it does towards the end of the piece, the drums don't feel as overpowering. :D Overall, really evocative stuff here, Midi! I envision an introverted ghost who gets invited to a dance party and ends up having a good time. ^^

Love the gritty bass and quirky lead. Sounds very retro indeed. The ghostly melodies and rich harmonies really hit the spot - has a really triumphant feel to it overall. I'd love to see a full version of this sometime. Cheers! ^_^

The ominous wave-like synth at the beginning is pretty cool. I love the atmosphere, although the harmonies are a bit dissonant at times, especially towards the beginning. The beat at :38 is really nice, and the synth lead is cool too, although it cuts out a little suddenly at :52. I like the gritty bass at 1:17 and the frantic synth pattern at 1:37 and other places. The piece still sounds a bit minimal, and could use some stronger melodic content at times, but it's much better than you think it is with your "predicted score" of 2.5 stars. :) Keep at it, CF24!

Creeperforce24 responds:

I guess it was because this is my first time trying to do such a genre as this, plus I have a feeling your a bit strict with your reviews (which is good) so I just made a prediction of that lol, but I’m glad to see I did better! Thanks for the critique.

YES. I love eerie soundtrack-type music, and you nailed this. The low-pitched, almost meditative drone, the echo-y vocals, and the ambient crickets/nature sound effects all contribute to some fantastic sound design, and the pacing of the piece is really nice too. Just when I think the piece is petering out a bit, the piano riff at 2:15 takes it in a new, suspenseful direction. Love the variety and sense of narrative direction here. If I had to complain about one thing, it might be that the way the crickets duck under the mix when the vocals/bass come in sounds a bit unnatural. Regardless, this is a thoroughly enjoyable track, SFW! Keep it up. ^_^

I really need to catch up with your more recent stuff. Love the cutesy instrumentals and seemingly Latin-inspired beat. At first, the vocals sounded a little uninspired, like you weren't quite hitting max energy, but the layering at :45 is really nice, and I also like the lyrics a lot. Love the guitar solos during the post-chorus sections too. There are a lot of distinctive harmonic parts during the final section that help the piece come together nicely. Strong work, SFW! ^_^

Wow, this sets the scene nicely. Love how each chord takes its time to develop - every note has a shape here. Just really beautiful, organic-sounding, refreshing music. If I ever take a vacation in Oklahoma or something, this will be my soundtrack. ^_^

Hey man! Sorry for the slow response. Busy week for me.

I like the synth riff at the beginning. The vocal sample at :30 sounds a tad out-of-place, but by :46 the drums are really catchy and keep up the energy level nicely. Some of the instruments sound pretty inauthentic, especially the brass at 1:01. Usually it's better to choose instruments that are meant to sound electronic rather than super fake ones that are meant to sound orchestral. But I like the harmonies here - they're much less dissonant than in Sunset Dreams. The transitions could be a bit more gradual at times, but the crashes definitely help make them sound smoother. Overall solid track, dude. Keep it up! ^_^

Jok3004 responds:

Thanks so much! Also, nothing in this song except the shakers at the drops are samples. And sorry for responding late. 😅

Instruments are... A little troublesome every now and then.
The crashes used to be less impactive... yea thats really all i have to say. Thanks again!
Wait, one more thing. Sunset dreams was my fifteenth song, and this is my 34th song. I guess that can be a useful piece of info XD
