I like the beat and effects/instruments. I thought the progression and (vocals?) were interesting. The transition at :39 could've been a little smoother, and it got a little repetitive by the end. The break-down at 1:47 felt a little out-of-place, even if it did add some structural relief. The ending felt a little weak, and lacked finality in my opinion. It's very unique and catchy, though. I'm interested in hearing some more of your work if you make it to Round 3. ;)

I love the instruments and atmosphere. :D Stylistically, it is a lot like your Round 1 submission. It's very funky and moody, though - I love it! :D The transitions were better than usual, and those melodies are overwhelmingly engrossing! The mixing is fantastic, btw - the part at 2:25 was really cool where it sounded like the frequency was oscillating really fast. It almost sounded like a wobble bass in dubstep, except not with a bass! XD The only thing I was a little disappointed about was the ending - fade-out endings just aren't interesting imo. I have no complaints about structure, instruments, or anything else, though. This is another amazing track, Johnfn! :D Your attitude about ZipZipper reminds me of Kor-Rune's attitude about Camoshark in Round 1 btw, and Kor-Rune made it to Round 2! I'm rooting for you, Johnfn, if you make it to Round 3 or not! ;D

johnfn responds:

Phew thanks! I'm glad that all my work with mixing and so forth paid off - it was really driving me pretty crazy. Haha, the midrange dubstep thing. I discovered that trick a few weeks ago while messing around and I thought it was really cool! So in this song I inserted a break there as an excuse to use it. ;-)

That's true, I do sound a little like Kor-Rune... but then again, Kor-Rune is Kor-Rune xD. ZipZipper is a cool guy though, so I'm looking forward to what he makes, no matter if it destroys me or not.

I knew the ending thing would come up! If I somehow find time, I may upgrade the ending to something slightly more interesting, but honestly a lot of groovy songs end with a fadeout - I feel like it suggests that the groove goes on, even after you've left.

Thanks a lot for the review as always. It's great to have some sort of validation after pouring a lot of hours into a song.

I love the mellow mood of it! Reminds me of my grandma's old farmhouse in rural Pennsylvania. :') The melodies at 1:05 are really beautiful, and the beat, while very unique, also helps with the progression of the piece. Excellent work, Johnfn! I still can't believe that this is a quick, 2-hour respite when it sounds like you've been working on it for ages! ;D

johnfn responds:

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it! After a lot of practice I've become able to sketch out an idea for a song really rapidly. It's all the little details that end up taking the bulk of the time. (Like that transition at 1:05 for instance... I'm surprised you didn't call me out on that xD)

The funny thing about the beat is that the melody I ended up with in the second half was in 3/4, which I almost never use. So I really had no idea what to do for the beat and kinda randomly did stuff until it sounded ok. heheh.

Thanks again for dropping by!

I like the instruments and mood and melodies. Nice upbeat, feel-good vibe. Loops well. Could've used some more variation on the melody, but I appreciated the structural relief :46 offered, and, overall, it's a cool track. ;) Keep up the good work! :)

I love the mood and instruments - all those effects with the machinery and metal tools add a lot to the piece. The amount of variation is incredible! I love the structure and transitions. It makes me think of tired-looking, rusty robots working in a busy factory. Amazing work! :D Engaging melodies, cool instruments, well-defined mood, dynamic contrast - you did it all! You just earned yourself a fan, Step! :D Outstanding job! ;D

Step responds:

Yesss, that's what I love to hear! Thanks a lot; I'm particularly happy that you like the variation and the dynamic contrast, two things I'm very careful of in my tracks!

Also thanks for favouriting me :3. I'm very glad you enjoyed this.

Really chill and moody. I like it a lot! :D The instruments were okay - a little harsh at times with the high-pitched tones. I love how you molded the mood into that of apprehension at :57. It's very suspenseful and engaging. It ends a bit suddenly, though. Overall, a great track. I'd love to see you do some more with this: extend it, add a little more structure, etc. Hope this was helpful! ;D

Blackmajiick responds:

Thanks for the feedback.
I might extend and improve this at some point.

Really cool and catchy and climactic. I like the instruments, and I love what you did with the slide tool at :58. The drums were a little cliché, and I'm pretty sure you used some of the default drum instruments, but it's overall a solid track. I like the structure and transitions and melodies. Nice job adding some variation at 3:39 and 4:04. I liked the ending as well, but it cuts off a little suddenly. Did you intend for this to loop? Anyway, really nice job overall! ;D

erenik responds:

Loop: Dunno, maybe :P kinda making it for a game, so yeah XD
Never really know how to structure them, but yeah a bit sudden end, but it kinda works if looping :P
