I like the combination of synths with the creepy drone-like ambiance. The bongos were a nice touch, too. It doesn't loop perfectly, but I can hardly take off points for that! Please expand on this idea, Insanctuary! I think it'll be worth your while! :D Looking forward to hearing what you do with this. ;)

Insanctuary responds:

I want to. ;) Thanks.

I love the energetic mood and bouncy vibe it has to it. Smooth-flowing as well, except maybe for 4:46. Need a sweep or crash there to make it less sudden. I also think the bass is taking up way too much space in the mix. You might need to turn down the volume a bit, but it could also be that it wasn't equalized enough. Open up "Parametric EQ 2" in the mixer and drag down the tones for the bass except the lowest 200 hertz. Also, it could use a little more structuring: moments like 3:30 where the parts change, instead of an ongoing, frantic melody like during the first 3 minutes of the piece. More dynamic contrast would be ideal. Overall, though, it's pretty good. I like all the echo/delay and filtering stuff - that was cool. You should really upload stuff to the Audio Portal more often, Elephly. You have potential. Keep at it, man! ;D See you in the Writing Forum! ^^

Elephly responds:

Thanks for the tips! Music is only a little hobby of mine so I don't tend to get stuff up often.

Yup, my suspicions were correct: you're really good! :D I like that melody - sounds very melancholy and soulful. I've always deeply admired the ability to improvise. Maybe I'll work on that more myself after this week when I have more time. You really have that vibrato down, too. Great job! :D May I ask how you recorded it?

TeraVex responds:

Audacity and a blue snowball with pop filter. That's all you need really!

Step: PLEASE never go 6 months without posting a song EVER AGAIN! I love the mood and instruments of this one, as well as the dramatic/heroic vibes throughout. It looped flawlessly, and really kept me entertained throughout. It was short, yet had plenty of variation and melodic development. That said, the transition at :54 was rather sudden, although I suppose that is fitting for a videogame. At first, it actually looped a couple times without me even noticing! The replay value on this piece is fantastically high! I love it! :D Keep up the great work, Step. Let's hope I'll never again go into such intense bouts of Step withdrawl as I have over the past 6 months. ;)

UltimateCJ64 responds:

Damn you admins for not completing the project system so that managers can respond to reviews as well! Sorry dude, wish Step could respond. :(

I appreciate the review, man. Yeah, the whole -sudden- transition kinda got me as well, but like you said, appropriate for a game. Plus it adds a little dramatic effect, going into a false sense of security, you see? ;D Also great to hear that it does loop without issue, I'd go nuts if it didn't since I am using it in a little while. XD

I hope I see more from Step as well after this project. :)

Yeah, this is a fun little loop! :D I like the drama and mood, as well as the instruments. It loops well. Wish there was a bit more structural development, but I understand that you were pressed for time! ;) I AM going to respond to your PMs, btw. This Friday or Saturday. AFTER final exams. DX Sorry...I know it's been a long time. I'll have all the time in the world to chat online after 6/20/14. ;D

LucidShadowDreamer responds:

Hahha, personally, I don't think it's really that good at all XD
I wish there was a lot more to this, but it's not that serious a project. I'm happy with it, considering the time it took me to make. I should've tried to get rid of the clipping though :/

I'm looking forward to your PM ;)

Good luck with your exams, and thank you for reviewing! :D

I liked the vocal samples at the beginning, and how that sort of set the context for the rest of the piece. I could clearly picture the dejected gutter guy taking a long walk back to his van. XD The piece has a pretty cool cinematic quality to it, yet is very minimalistic. I like the combination of synths and strings, as well as the mood and atmosphere. It gets really repetitive, though, and needs more structuring/progression. It's in pretty good quality, though, and the mix is clear, so I'm scouting you, bro. You have potential, so please post more! ;D

xpwifi responds:

Woah, I did not see this. Thanks for leaving such a detailed review. The song was actually not made by me but was taken from the audio portal. I probably could have ended it a LOT earlier, but for some reason, I just put the entire song in. On hindsight, that probably wasn't the best idea. Thanks for the reply!

I love the synths and pads and chill mood. That said, I think it should've progressed a lot faster, even if it is supposed to be chill. You need some more fill at some points too imo. I like the piano riffs though, and it is really smooth-flowing and relaxing. The instruments and mood are definitely there - I think you need to think more about progression/structuring, and some dynamic contrast wouldn't hurt either. I think it loops pretty well, though. Anyway, I'm scouting you because I think you have potential. Keep up the good work, man! ;D

joerdy responds:

thanx man!
finally a review haha,
and about the structuring and progression is a point where i need to look at, most of the time i make something and put so much work in it that i dont finish it thats why i have a lot long build ups in the tracks i make haha, but i will do my best to apply it in my next project. thanx for your review!

Dude, I haven't heard from you in a while! :D I love the instruments and moods. That quirky ambient beat adds a lot to the piece. Progresses a little slowly at times, but really creates a nice background sound. My favorite part was probably when the strings came in at 1:09. 2:06 was also a height of emotion for me. The weird FX that comes in for the first time at around 2:15 didn't really work for me, though. Kind of sounds mechanical and dark, which clashes noticeably with the more organic-sounding and emotional strings/pads. I like the ending, but I think overall it also needed some more dynamic contrast. If you want to incorporate the FX, I would suggest putting it at the beginning and then having the piece evolve into a more emotion/feel-good sort of piece. ;) Keep up the good work, W00ki3! ^^

W00ki3 responds:

Man, i love when u reviewing my trucks! Alwyas with good words! Thanks bro ;)

Ha, I recognized that acoustic bass preset from Garageband instantly! :D I love the woodwinds/brass, though, and the piano as well. The progression was good, and it was nice and smooth-flowing. I think my favorite of the song was 1:51 - almost feels like Latin pop from there on out! :D Great job with the melodies and harmonies, though. This is a fun piece. Keep up the great work, LunacyEcho! ;D

LunacyEcho responds:

=> preset =>

Guilty. :P

=> 1:51 =>

Latin pop? I guess it does! The second half was also inspired in part by a song called Afro Blue (not sure if you've heard of it), so I guess that's why you think so.

Thanks a lot! I did try and make the second part fun.

I love the retro vgm vibes, man! The funky bass and rhythms really give it that 90s feel. The vocals were well-done, too - may I ask what they're saying? Well-structured and smooth-flowing, and I love those melodies! You never fail to impress, Waterflame! Keep up the good work! :D

Waterflame responds:

Thank you! :D I will add the text in the author comment field now!
