TaintedLogic's News

Posted by TaintedLogic - June 29th, 2015

Below is a complete list of rules and formatting guildelines for my competition. Please read them carefully if you plan on participating. Thank you in advance.

1. You may have someone sing or play an instrument for you as long as you write the music and lyrics AND mix/master the piece.

2. You can enter the competition as a team of two. If the members of your “team” would otherwise be placed in different groups (Underdog, Professional Amateur, or All Star) as solo artists, the team will be placed in the group  corresponding to the highest fan total among its members (e.x., if one member has 20 fans and the other has 60, and the All Stars each have 50 fans or more, the team will compete in the All Stars group). Teams of more than 2 are not permitted. Also, if you are entering as a team of 1, you cannot have a collaboration as your audition piece or as any other piece for the competition.

3. The pieces you make for the competition should be full-length (2-8 minute) songs of the musical variety. Under no circumstances will we accept parodies, skits/sketches, sound effects, voice acting, or anything with non-copyrighted pre-packaged loops in it (Garageband’s Apple loops come to mind). For tryouts, it's okay to submit covers, arrangements, remixes, and have samples in your piece. In the Knock-out Round, we're going to be stricter about this (details to follow).

4. Remember when I said you couldn’t have HTML when posting your songs? Well, part of the reason for that is you usually HAVE to have HTML if you’re posting your songs from a site besides Newgrounds. You must be able to submit your song to Newgrounds in order to enter the competition. No submissions from Soundcloud, Bandcamp, iTunes, Spotify, Audiojungle, etc. will be accepted!

5. You can post commentary in the threads dedicated to the competition, but please keep it friendly! Sportsmanship, people, sportsmanship! If you have any complaints about judges’ scores or the contest in general, PM THEM instead of embarrassing yourself by acting like a sore loser in the thread. Also, just because this is a special contest doesn’t mean regular BBS and Audio Portal rules don’t apply. The mods will be watching this contest with their fingers already on the trigger, not hesitating to shoot down rogue competitors (or, well, ex-competitors). Please use common sense and THINK BEFORE YOU POST, because no one wants to have to clean up your guts off of the train tracks (metaphorically speaking). Also, you’re encouraged to support and review the pieces of your competitors.

6. The judges are not obligated to review any of the pieces you submit to the competition until you make it to the Knock-out Round (i.e., the round after tryouts). During the Knock-out Round, you should receive at least THREE rather detailed reviews from three of the different judges. They should each give you a score out of 10 and state clearly what that is in the review itself. These scores will be averaged to determine who advances to future rounds. Btw, we use the same scoring system for tryouts, just without the reviews. Last year, we had issues with judges posting their reviews on time, so if you haven't received any reviews by the time we've annouced who is advancing onto the final round, you have every right to PM me (or any of the other judges) requesting those reviews.

7. After tryouts comes the Knock-out Round! Another thread will be posted in the BBS, setting the time limit for Friday, July 31st at 11:59 P.M. EDT for the remaining competitors to submit their completely-from-scratch and original new tracks. The judges and I have yet to decide how many people we're going to accept into the final round (or the contest in general, for that matter). Last year, the final round consisted of 3 people from each group. These remaining competitors will be announced on Monday, August 3rd. The deadline for the final round is Friday, August 14th at 11:59 P.M. EDT., and the winners will be announced on Monday, August 17th. For the Final Round, all the judges will be scoring all the participants.

Thank you all for following the rules. It really makes it a lot easier for the judges, the mods, and myself. If you have any questions about the rules, please don't hesitate to PM me. Good luck in the competition, my friends! ;D

Hey everyone,

Tonight, I passed a really important milestone in my "Newgrounds career." I've reviewed over 1,000 of your songs over the past 2 years, 9 months, 15 days and 5.5 hours. That's 1,003 reviews in 1,020 days. Yeah.

One of the big goals I had made in my first news post was to help others improve their music, and I truly felt like I've done that to the best of my ability. And I'm not stopping either. I have a long summer stretching out in front of me, and within a couple of weeks I hope to make up those 17 days during which I had apparently shirked my reviewing duties.

I'm also graduating high school in 5 days, and the 5 days after that will consist of almost constant graduation parties. The day after that I'm getting my wisdom teeth out, and then later in the summer my family is on vacation in Bermuda! <3  :D  All the while, I'll be working at my local grocery store, as well as getting ready for college. And I'll make some music too! ^^

Anyway, those are all the updates I have for you guys for now. There are always so many people to thank for their incessant support (and for being especially gracious for my reviews) - @LunacyEcho @LucidShadowDreamer @Johnfn @BlueOceans @DylnMatrix @Lockyn @TeraVex  @Larrynachos   ...and a lot of others I'm sure I'm forgetting as well. 73 of my 1,003 audio reviews are of Johnfn's tracks alone, btw. I counted.

Love you guys. Happy June! ^^

Greetings fellow Newgrounders!

First of all, I'd like to apologize for my continued lack of activity these past few months. I know I owe a ton of people a ton of reviews (@DylnMatrix, @LucidShadowDreamer, @LunacyEcho, @Johnfn, and others). Senior spring has been almost non-existent for me. I have a number of big exams coming up which will hopefully help me out a lot once I get to college. Still, in a couple of weeks I should be more free than I've been in a long, long time, and in another month I won't even have class! All that news seems trivial with this next piece of information, though:

I'M GOING TO COLLEGE IN AUGUST!!! :D  Namely, I'll be attending a small liberal arts school with about 1,800 students (all undergraduate) in Lewiston, Maine, a modest former mill city not much larger than my hometown of Wellesley, Mass. It's called Bates College. I was drawn to Bates by its focus on individualized learning and long history of egalitarianism (it was found as an abolitionist institution in 1855). I'm extremely excited about going!

I also recently heard that @Oswald has left the site. I knew Oswald as a fun, good-natured guy who was always so receptive to my criticism of his music, which improved a lot from when I first heard it. Unfortunately, he decided to pursue some other interests of his besides music-making, but I'll always consider him a friend of mine. I also noticed that he barely got any of the recognition he deserved on his news page for his 2.5 years of contributing to NG, so if you knew Oswald (or even if you didn't), I'd encourage you to leave him some words of parting: http://oswald.newgrounds.com/news/post/920534.

Thank you so much for your continued support, Newgrounds, and, as promised, I'll be back with some new music soon! ;D

Hello people of Newgrounds,

Not to anyone's surprise, I've largely failed to increase my activity on Newgrounds after I got my college applications in and stuff. That said, I still have to keep up my grades at school, as well as work, cello lessons, community service club, tennis, orchestra, and - somehow - sleep! Wish me luck! I may not have a lot of extra time to spend hours on end making songs in Fruity Loops (or Garageband) this spring, but one thing I hope to keep up with is reviewing others' tracks.

I've reviewed one song on Newgrounds every day (on average) since I joined the site in the summer of 2012. I'd love to be able to keep that up, because I love giving back to the community (and the individuals) who have already given me so much. Maybe I shouldn't be optimistic about it, though, because I'm going to be busy...

Still, I think I'm going to like 2015 better than 2014. No more of this college application stuff...I'm finally going to go to college (assuming I get accepted...somewhere). I'm nervous...and excited...but mostly excited, I think. :)  I'm also looking forward to this summer. Seniors graduate before underclassmen, so I'll have a full 3 months of relaxation and preparation for, well, the rest of my life! It's kind of scary, but if I never went outside of my comfort zone, I wouldn't have gotten a lot of what I have gotten out of life, including in this site. Some of my best tracks this year have been ones where I've really changed up my style, and creating a Spanish Club and running an audio competition require a large dose of extrovertedness. ;)

Shout out to the people who have made my time on Newgrounds more than worth it (in no particular order): @LucidShadowDreamer @Johnfn @Lockyn @Step @BlueOceans @LunacyEcho @DylnMatrix @TeraVex @Oswald
...and so many others I do not mention here.

I have so many goals for the new year, guys. Part of me just wants to be realistic with myself, but I can't help being optimistic. After all, "2015" has a nice ring to it, doesn't it? :)

Here's to right now!

Hi everyone,

In case you hadn't noticed, my username is no longer "TheDoor6." I felt like it wasn't very creative, interesting, or memorable, so I changed it to TaintedLogic. "TheDoor6" was actually based on symbolism. Idk if you guys are familiar with my profile pic on Soundcloud, but I'm supposed to be reaching for the knob of the door (change) and going toward the light outside (my future)...kind of cheesy. Anyway, while that symbolism is still valid in many ways, I think TaintedLogic is much less...dull and stupid than TheDoor6. XD  I hope you guys like it, and if you don't, too bad 'cause it took me all summer to figure out how to make that logo in Photoshop. XD

TaintedLogic, while not really symbolic, is just a cool name I thought of when I realized I rarely do things logically. This led to the conclusion that "knowledge is freedom; guilt is knowledge; freedom is guilt," which in itself is tainted logic. Anyway, if you can't keep up with my random philosophical speculations, feel free to form your own opinion on the significance of "TaintedLogic." ;)  So, therefore, the meaning of "TaintedLogic" in my eyes was derived after I had come up with the name, the opposite of which is true for "TheDoor6." It resulted in what is, in my opinion, a much cooler username.

I also wanted to call myself "TaintedLogic" because now some of my songs can start with "the." For example, I wanted to call my song Storm "The Storm," but "The Door - The Storm" sounded really bizarre. XD  Now I'm just rambling, though...

I still am a bit bogged down in college apps and stuff to produce a lot of content, but I'll try to stay active on the forums and keep up with my reviews.

Yeah, besides my username, not a lot has changed...

     Talk to you later everyone...

~Andrew

Below is a complete list of knock-out round rules. Please read them carefully if you plan on participating. Thank you.

1. You may have someone sing or play an instrument for you as long as you write the music and lyrics AND mix/master the piece.

2. You can enter the competition as a team of two, but only if both members of your “team” are in the same group based on fans. Also, if you are entering as a team of 1, you cannot have a collaboration as your audition piece or as any other piece for the competition.

3. ALL of the pieces you make for the competition must be full-length (2-8 minute) songs of the musical variety. Under no circumstances will we accept parodies, skits/sketches, sound effects, voice acting, or anything with non-copyrighted pre-packaged loops in it (Garageband’s Apple loops come to mind).

4. Remember when I said you couldn’t have HTML when posting your songs? Well, part of the reason for that is you usually HAVE to have HTML if you’re posting your songs from a site besides Newgrounds. You must be able to submit your song to Newgrounds in order to enter the competition. No submissions from Soundcloud, Bandcamp, iTunes, Spotify, Tunecore, Audiojungle, etc. will be accepted!

@Back-from-Purgatory will be watching this thread like a hawk for rogue competitors (or, well, ex-competitors), and, like a bird of prey, she WILL gouge your eyes out and leave you for the vultures (metaphorically speaking). Please think BEFORE you post! Also, you’re encouraged to support and review the pieces of your competitors.

6. You’ll be receiving THREE rather detailed reviews from three of the different judges if you make it past tryouts. They’ll each give you a score out of 10 and state clearly what that is in the review itself. These scores will be averaged, and the person with the highest average score in each group will be the winner of that group. Just so you know.

7. The winners of each group will be announced by Monday, August 25th. Then, those winners will face each other in an epic finale! They’ll have 2 more weeks (until Saturday, September 6th at 12:00 a.m. EST) to submit their final pieces! :D  All rules for the knock-out round apply to this one as well. The complete list of details for this round will be posted in that thread in a couple of weeks. Scoring for this round will be identical to the last one, but this time all of the judges will review each track (since I don’t think it’s too much to ask to review 3 tracks, do you?). The winner of the competition will be announced on Monday, September 9th.

8.Prizes for each of the group winners will include forum signatures corresponding to your place, spots on the front page of the NG Audio Portal for the 4 winning pieces, and...well...ETERNAL GLORY!!!  @Bad-Man-Incorporated has also generously offered to feature the one overall winner and the winning track on his radio show. The details on that will be revealed very soon. >:D

Thank you all for following the rules. It really makes it a lot easier for the judges, the mods, and myself. Good luck in the competition, my friends! ;D

*Logs onto Newgrounds one day, in all innocence...*

*sees he has 237 new "interactions"*

0_O

*spends an irrational amount of time scrolling through said interactions and getting a feel for the new layout*

*eventually decides he likes it, as it will be more convenient to keep up with creative content/news post activity/forum post activity and to get a feel for what his friends are doing on the site...now that it's all in one place!*

My Junior year of high school is -FINALLY- over.

Oh

My

God.

Sorry I've been so inactive recently, guys. Junior spring is a nasty, nasty time. I'm going to have tons more time this summer. I've got 4-5 projects I failed to finish before the madness kicked in, plus a collab with Teravex in the works that I'm really excited about. I want to be more active in the forums and in other areas besides audio this summer, but probably more as a reviewer than anything else. Also, I'm going to start uploading more previews of tracks and remastered old favorites to my Soundcloud, something I've wanted to do for a long time now. I also have driving lessons, work, college essays, and prep for AP classes to deal with, but you guys don't care about that! XD

Here's to summer! Stay classy, Newgrounds! ;D

ME: Hi everyone! Guess what?! I have a SoundCloud now, so please check it out, and be sure to follow me cuz-

YOU [rudely interrupting]: Wait...why should I follow you on Soundcloud too if you're just going to post the same songs there that you do here?

ME: I'm not! Instead, I'm going to upload EXCLUSIVE PREVIEWS of my new tracks, as well as EXCLUSIVE REMASTERED VERSIONS of  some of my old tracks, thereby giving you some incentive to

                               CHECK OUT MY SOUNDCLOUD          --> https://soundcloud.com/thedoor6 <--

YOU: Well, in that case, I'm totally going to check out TheDoor6's Soundcloud RIGHT NOW, and I'll also be sure to follow him, because, after all, he's awesome at making music, and a really nice kid, and smart, and funny, and handsome, and........modest................

My name is TheDoor6, and I approve this message.

...which reminds me:       R.I.P. =3!       :'(

Hi everyone. Thought I'd keep you posted on some stuff that's been going on with me since I made my last news post in September.

My New Year's Revolution is to post a song at least every two weeks (on average), so no more 6-week mini-hiatuses for me! :)

In November I made a collab with a musician who I highly respect, BlueOceans. It was my first completed collab, and I feel like I learned a lot from the experience. I regard it as a pretty big milestone in my "career."

The Newgrounds community also lost an important member in the past few months. DylnMatrix has decided to "move on to bigger and better things." http://dylnmatrix.newgrounds.com/news/post/881212 Not only was he a big influence for me musically, but he was also one of my first friends on this site, and the GUY WHO SCOUTED ME. He'll be missed dearly, although he did promise he'll "still post here from time to time."

Music-wise, I can tell you I'll be experimenting a lot in the near future with non-EDM stuff. I just uploaded "How's It Goin'?," which is somehow a combination of hip-hop, jazz, and ambient. I recently purchased Sakura (orchestral string plug-in), and am working on buying some instruments for it. My music tech class is going pretty well, and it's one of the main reasons why I can post more often this year. Expect some weird ambient and jazz tracks coming soon! >:D

So, thanks again to my core supporters: BlueOceans, Johnfn, Lockyn, JQiscool, Mistarogerz, and now TeraVex and Zenovance too! You guys are awesome, and you really help motivate me to keep working on improving my stuff. It's just true! :D

I'm so excited to see what 2014 and beyond holds in store for me, and I hope you are too! Have a nice day, Newgrounds! ;D
